Since we’ve entered level 3 of lockdown with most people now returning to work, we recommend that you check your vehicle to ensure it’s in good condition and roadworthy.

In recent weeks we have had a high number of cases involving flat tyres and dead batteries and this  could be dangerous given the high crime levels in South Africa. Vehicles that break down can also be a hazard to other road users and many unnecessary accidents result from bad visibility at night or stationary vehicles in dangerous locations obstructing the normal flow of traffic.

If you do happen to break down, ensure that you take the correct precautions:

  • If possible, move your vehicle away from the main traffic flow.
  • Carry a red warning triangle in your boot, and place it ‘not less than 45 metres from the motor vehicle along the roadway of the public road concerned.’*
  • Use your hazard lights whenever stationary on the side of the road or freeway.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and remain in your vehicle if safe to do so.
