To all my Together SA CAN/TrackBox Technologies family members,

I have some updates to share with you regarding Apple iOS, but first, let me go through some important points. Some tough decisions have to be made because each one of you is so important, and this includes your freedom to make personal choices.

This said, when one talks of choices, our discussions must inevitably lead to money, because even with all the heart and passion in the world, almost everything has a cost attached to it.  So the question is, do we continue with iOS development for AAA-Response Platform, or drop it due to costs? And so the tough debate starts…

We don’t need to debate how amazing Apple is in terms of their technology, but unfortunately in South Africa, it is not as widely adopted. On our platform it actually appears to be losing market share and we can see that the majority of users are opting for Android.

We are very proud of our work with Apple, however our iOS app’s sustainability in South Africa has come into question. So, here are some basic estimates to do with our platform’s progress over 17 years of community building.

As it stands, we have 4,642 total installs of iOS app, out of the roughly 47,500 MyVault iOS user accounts, equating to about12,5% of our platform database. 87,5% of the database is using Android, with 32,220 total installs of the Android app out of the 332,500 MyVault Android user accounts, making up the ±380,000 total user base.

It is also very interesting to note that in the last 30 days we have had almost 8800 interactions with the app on the Android platform, almost double the number of total downloads for iOS, with iOS app interactions for the last 30 days sitting at only 193. Of the 4642 downloads on iOS, 864 are full service premium members at the current discounted rate of R30,00pm which was our introductory phased in adoption approach with a 45% discount.

Remember that all users who choose to download the free app gain an advantage as they have access to more technology and tools to support their safety and security, providing them with more options when confronted with an emergency. The paid for membership includes our AAA Response managed services with access to over 100 Organisations and this covers the cost of the maintenance of the technology and Together SA CAN (NPO) operations.

We know our direct total reach is around 1,5 million members but it’s almost impossible to know the full extent as some leaders and organisations who use our platform have three to four times this number on their database. At a guess, I would say that after 17 years of operation we have an indirect reach of about 10 million people that we could activate if the case or matter at hand was pressing enough. We have seen this on the Specialised Victim Support(SVS) platform with high profile cases.
