Dispatcher Files

Poaching with dogs has been an ongoing issue within the entire KwaZulu Natal region for many years. Cases to date from the years 2018 to 2020 stand at 229 incidents for ‘poaching with dogs’ in our control room alone. We see that the hardest hit areas are those that are surrounded by farmlands and forestation – places where poachers can gain easy access and can escape unseen, and that have a wide variety of wildlife for them to hunt.

There is, however, some good news… We have seen a decrease in poaching activity due to the pressure we have been putting on poachers in the well-known areas where they operate, and which we have prioritised as “red zones” with high poaching figures.

We know that poaching will not end but we are doing everything we can in collaboration with the KZN Honorary Officers, SAPS and Hawks’ assistance.

We urge all members to report any form of poaching through the National ERPC by using your AAA Response App’s ‘Report’ function, so as to stop these criminals and together with all role-players save our precious wildlife.
