The 2002 Disaster Management Act facilitates coordination, mitigation and recovery following a disaster, defined as a “natural or human-caused occurrence that causes disease, damage to property, infrastructure or the environment, or disruption of the life of a community”.

Every aspect of human interaction will be governed while the national state of disaster is in effect, and with this in mind we need to be patient, kind, caring, compassionate, and show empathy and calmness. Not everything is going to happen the way it was initially intended and our national and international leaders will be making decisions that they will modify or even go back on in the best interest of the community. This is the time to stand together (while remaining physically apart) and to focus on getting through this difficult time, so put the gloves away, get out of the ring and stand to attention in the neutral space of the locker room in support of not just our leadership, but our country.
